ALA Boxing Gym’s Jonas “Zorro” Sultan scored a stunning knockout victory against former WBC world flyweight champion Sonny Boy Jaro last Sunday evening at the Angono Sports Complex in Angono, Rizal.

The 25-year-old Sultan knocked out Jaro at the 1:25 mark of the eighth round after a see-saw battle in the previous rounds.

With the win, Sultan, a native of Tampilisan, Zamboanga del Norte, retained his IBF Inter-continental super flyweight title and improved his record to 13-3-0 (win-loss-draw) with nine knockouts.

Sultan found a perfect spot to land his counter left hook during an exchange of punches that wobbled Jaro. Sensing a knockout, Sultan moved forward and launched a flurry of punches that almost sent Jaro out of the ring. Referee Bruce Mctavish stopped the fight after Jaro failed to beat his count.

The 35-year-old Jaro snapped his nine-fight win streak and suffered his 14th loss. He has 43 wins, 30 by knockouts, and five draws.
