Cebuano bets try to improve standings in NAGCC
Cebuano bets will look to finish strong in their respective campaigns in the ongoing 2017 National Age Group Chess Championships (NAGCC) Grand Finals as most of the divisions end today at the Robinsons Galleria Cebu.
University of San Carlos’ (USC) Laila Camel Nadera is the highest ranked Cebuano player in the tournament. She is one victory away from current leader in the Under-20 division, Women’s FIDE Master (WFM) Allaney Jia Doroy, with 7.5 points after 10 rounds.
Nadera won against Frince Ezra Ocliasa in the eighth round and drew with Rizalyn Tejada in the ninth.
Two more rounds remain in the division.
In the under-14 girls division, Cebuanas Regina Catherine Quiñanola and Alphecca Gonzales are both stuck at fifth place after the 12th round with 8.5 points each.
Quiñanola settled for a draw against Gonzales in the 12th round then won over Ruth Vinuya in the 13th. Gonzales won against Ella Mendoza in the 13th round.
Another Cebuana, KC Moralla, who was at second place in the early rounds in the under-20 women’s division, dropped to seventh place with 6.5 points after 11 rounds.
Moralla drew with Ynna Canape in the 10th round and settled for another draw with WFM San Diego in the 11th.
Other Cebuanos in the tournament are Kristina Concepcion Belano, who is at fourth place with 6.5 points in the under-10 girls division, and Jave Merick Peteros, who is at third with 7.0 points in the under-14 boys division.
