3 killed in road mishaps in Cebu

THREE persons died in separate road accidents in Cebu in a span of two days.

In Bogo City, northern Cebu, two persons were killed after their motorcycle collided with a prime mover along Capt. Ancajas Avenue on Monday evening.

Randy Catamco, 22, and his backriders Kimpie Cumayas, 14, and Christian Lucero, 12, both residents of Barangay Dakit in the city, were brought to Bogo City District Hospital. Both Catamco and Cumayas were declared dead on arrival, while Lucero is still recuperating at the hospital.

Based on the initial investigation by the Bogo police, the motorcycle rammed the prime mover driven by Jeofrey Velasco around 8 p.m. last Monday.

The prime mover that came from Medellin town reportedly turned right upon reaching the corner of Capt. Ancajas Avenue when the left portion of the truck was hit by the incoming motorcycle driven by Catamco.

Velasco was detained at the Bogo Police Station pending the filing of case against him.

In Naga City, southern Cebu, a 50-year-old man died after he was hit by two vehicles while crossing the national road of Barangay Inayagan yesterday morning.

Graciano Villarmia, married and a resident of the area, succumbed to severe head and body injuries while being treated at the South General Hospital.

Two motorcycle riders also got injured after hitting Villarmia. They are William Cañedo, 19, the driver of the motorcycle, and a 17-year-old boy, his backrider.

They were brought to the hospital after sustaining injuries.

According to PO3 Michael Villarmia, the motorcycle came from Barili town and was heading to Barangay Lawaan, Talisay City, where the riders live.

Upon reaching the area, Villarmia suddenly crossed the street and was hit by the motorcycle and fell. But he was again run over by a white van that was also heading to Cebu City.

The van, however, did not stop. /CNU Communications Intern Geralyn M. Alba
