TEN public high schools in Mandaue City participated in the Fire Olympics on May 5 as part of the activities for Mandaue fiesta.
Tabok National High School won first place with P15,000 cash prize and a medal for each of the 11 members, followed by Mandaue City Comprehensive National High School at second place with P12,000 cash prize and 11 medals, and third placer Banilad National High School with P10,000 cash prize and 11 medals.
The participants had to wear firefighting gears, carry the breathing apparatus and set up the hose and position themselves to extinguish the fire.
Some members of the group acted as basic life support responders.
The competition was held at the Mandaue City Hall grounds.
Consolation prizes of P2,000 and certificates were given to Paknaan National High School, Tipolo NHS, Cabancalan NHS, Don Gerardo Memorial NHS, Labogon NHS, Jagobiao NHS and Maguikay NHS.
Mandaue City’s Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office head Felix Suico said they held the competition for the first time and they were planning to make it a regular activity for the youth.
