Newly installed Customs Commissioner John Sevilla checked the 1,630 unclaimed container vans at the Cebu International Port during his first Cebu visit since his appointment, this Monday morning.
Dismantled cars, used tires, used clothing and water purification rocks were among the questionable shipment that were left abandoned by the ‘consignee’ since last year.
Sevilla said seized items will have to be destroyed except the used clothing that will be given to the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) for their programs.
During his visit Sevilla said there will be several changes in the bureau’s operations. He said all port entry and transactions will be uploaded in the Bureau of Customs website to monitor old warehouses and import accreditations.
Sevilla said this will improve the processes to prevent smuggling.
