Bantayan makes quarterfinals

BANKING on a torrid second quarter run, Bantayan trounced San Remigio, 113-67, to earn a quarterfinal seat in the North Division Bracket 3 of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Medellin Sports Complex last Friday night.

In the other game, Medellin pocketed a third straight win by dumping Madridejos, 107-94.

Bantayan and Medellin capped their campaigns in eliminations with 3-2 (win-loss) records but the former secured the quarterfinal ticket owing to its 82-69 win over the latter in their elimination round duel.

Bantayan took a slim 24-17 lead after the first quarter but dropped a 32-13 bombed in the second stanza to lead big at the half, 56-30.

Renz Juniel Ugbaniel led Bantayan with 20 points, John Ray Caracena added 14, Marc Steven Ursal tallied 13, John Christian Quiamco donated 11, while Joshua Renz Ortiz pitched in 10.

Jeroel Pedroza led the way for San Remigio with 15 points, while Guinevere Amit, Isagani Asingua and Jasher Cabague contributed 10 apiece.

In the South Division Bracket 2, Ginatilan and Oslob forced a three-way tie at second place after they beat separate opponents at the Dalaguete Sports Complex.

Ginatilan downed Santander, 86-72, while Oslob tripped Boljoon, 94-71, as they tied Samboan at 4-2.

Samboan ended up taking the second quarterfinal slot in the division as it defeated Ginatilan and Oslob in their elimination round games.

Dalaguete, which took the other quarterfinal slot, chalked up its fifth win against a single loss via a 96-58 spanking of Alcoy.
