Newly crowned IBF World junior flyweight champion Milan “El Metodico” Melindo said he is planning to unify all the titles in the junior flyweight division to prove a point.
“It would be great to unify all the titles in this division and prove to everyone that I can rule this weight division,” said Melindo, in a press conference Tuesday night at the St. Mark Hotel at the Redemptorist Plaza in barangay Camputhaw, Cebu City.
Melindo pulled off a stunning first-round technical knockout victory against erstwhile champion Akira Yaegashi of Japan at the Ariake Coliseum in Tokyo, Japan last Sunday to win his first world title. His record now stands at 36 wins (13 by knockout), two losses and no draws.
The 29-year-old Melindo, who hails from Cagayan de Oro City, signified his readiness to fight anytime, should the IBF order him to defend his title.
But for now, he said that he will take a two-week break before resuming into training.
