FROM 38 teams, the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup 21-Under Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament is down to 12 squads as the league’s elimination round came to a close last Sunday night with a triple-header in the North Division Bracket 2 at the Balamban Sports Complex.
Tuburan completed a six-game sweep in the eliminations by routing Balamban, 87-75, Carmen downed Danao City, 67-58, while Asturias took down Borbon, 84-75.
Comprising the quarterfinalists in the North Division are Mandaue City (5-0), Tuburan (6-0), Bogo City (5-0), Consolacion (4-1), Balamban (5-1) and Bantayan (3-2). The South Division quarterfinalists are Toledo City (5-0), Talisay City (4-1), Dalaguete (5-1), Minglanilla (4-1), Samboan (4-2) and Barili (3-2).
The single round-robin quarterfinals will begin on Saturday. Venues and pairings will be finalized after today’s meeting among team and league officials headed by lawyer Ramil Abing, executive director of the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission (CPSC).
For reaching the quarterfinals, teams would get cash prizes. Number one teams in every division are set to receive P20,000 each, while the number two teams will be receiving P15,000 apiece.
Cash prizes will increase in the next round with the two semifinalists taking home P30,000 each and the number two seeds receiving P20,000 apiece.
A total of P800,000 are at stake in the championship round with the champion team getting P500,000 and the runner-up pocketing P300,000.
