UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) takes its first test under new head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba as the 2017 St. Isidore Parish Fiesta Invitational Cup gets underway today at the Saint Bernard Municipal Gymnasium in Southern Leyte.
Also seeing action in the three-day tournament are the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers, Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras, University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers.
UV will be taking on SWU at 9 a.m. before taking the floor again at 8:30 p.m. against USPF.
Alcoseba will then face his former team at 7 p.m. when UC battles SWU.
The Panthers’ first assignment of the day will be against the Warriors at 1 p.m.
The five top Cebu City-based collegiate basketball squads will play in a single round-robin elimination in the tournament that dangles a total cash prize of P260,000.
The top two squads after the eliminations will fight for the crown in a winner-take-all match.
Champion team will bring home P100,000, while the second and third placers will get P70,000 and P50,000, respectively. The fourth and fifth placers will get a consolation prize of P20,000 each.
The tournament is spearheaded by Isidore parish priest Rev. Fr. Joselito C. Catubig and tournament organizer Van Halen Parmis.
