Minglanilla remains spotless in quarters

AFTER picking up two straight victories on the road, Minglanilla sustained its momentum at home as it blasted the Dalaguete AgriSaurs, 80-67, to stay unbeaten in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under-21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Minglanilla Sports Complex, Sunday night.

Minglanilla upped its record to 3-0 (win-loss) to take the number one spot in the South Division while handing Dalaguete its first loss after starting the playoffs with back-to-back wins.

Marc Glen Nebril led the way for Minglanilla with 23 points and got a needed support from Jiesel Tarrosa, who piled up 18 markers.

Erickson Sangoyo paced Dalaguete with 13 points, while Von Villahermosa added 11 markers.

Bounce back

Meanwhile, the Toledo City Energy bounced back from a sorry loss to Minglanilla by edging out the Talisay City Aqua Stars, 79-77.

Behind Jhiey Paraldo, Richmond Lapinid and Elmer Echavez, Talisay was in control early but Tommy Bubuli got things going for Toledo as he unloaded 10 of his 25 points in the third period as the Energy grabbed the lead for good, 56-55, after three quarters of play.

Bubuli’s cousin Clark also had a solid showing with his 16 markers.

Ralph Reston added 13 markers, Rafael Garro donated 10 for Toledo, which came into the match reeling from a tight 74-75 loss to Minglanilla.
Lapinid topped the Aqua Stars with 22 points. Paraldo and Echavez added 16 and 11, respectively.

Barili tallied its first win in the quarterfinals via a 78-73 thwarting of Samboan.
