CCTO to start traffic rerouting dry run along N. Bacalso

This is how the P683 million underpass project in the intersection of N. Bacalso Ave. and F. Llamas St. in Cebu City will look like once construction is completed by the DPWH 7 and its contractor. Construction will start this month and is expected to be done within 18 months.

Traffic is heavy along the southbound lanes of N. Bacalso Ave. in Cebu City as the Cebu City Transportation Office (CCTO) started their traffic rerouting dry run on Wednesday morning.

Southbound public utility jeepneys (PUJs) and private vehicles are experiencing a bottleneck in the corner of Caimito St. where they are supposed to take a left turn as the portion in front of Mcdonald’s Mambaling has been closed by the CCTO.

The road closure started at 7:37 am, which was later than the scheduled start at 6 am.

Roy dela Cruz, project engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) 7, said there were some motorists who were surprised by the dry run and were not able to look for alternative routes of their own.

This was why many private vehicles ended up using Caimito St. which has been identified as the main alternative for PUJs going south.

“Maybe after lunch they will be able to adjust to the traffic rerouting dry run already. And by tomorrow, we can already see improvements,” dela Cruz said.

He explained that the start of the dry run was pushed back a little since not all of the traffic signs for the rerouting were put in place on time.

Dela Cruz said they will coordinate with the CCTO and solicit their advice on the results of the traffic dry run.

If they are given the go signal by CCTO already, he said the DPWH will already instruct the contractor to mobilize their equipment starting as early as this Friday.
