THE HOLY Spirit School put on an incredible display of basketball just months after the tragedy that befell their city of Tagbilaran as it downed the University of the Visayas (UV) in convincing fashion, 64-42, in the under-13 division of the Alaska Basketball Cup Cebu last Saturday afternoon at the Magis Eagles Arena at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) campus in Canduman, Mandaue City.
Holy Spirit School proved to be the surprise package in the opening day of the tournament that is being done in partnership with the Cebu Youth Basketball League of Rico Navarro.
It got off to a fast start, leading 20-11 at the end of the first period and continued to hold fort until they eventually broke the game wide open in the fourth canto to essay the lopsided win.
Karl Erick Nacuna and Acel Kent Pinos debuted in grand fashion with 12 points each.
In the day’s other game, the reigning champions SHS-AdC did not miss a beat as it beat down the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R), 74-26.
It was a close game after the opening 10 minutes of action, which saw the Eagles leading by a point, 12-11. However, they clamped down on their opponents in the ensuing period, holding them scoreless while putting up 30 points of their own to lead, 42-11, at halftime.
