POLICE DEFIANCE

Despite a court order, the Police Regional Office stood their ground and insisted on keeping Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel and driver Randel Lupas under detention on charges in relation to the murder of Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Bendong-Boniel.

Their refusal was applauded by netizens like Yan Mar who wrote, “Tama yan sarge..wag niyo e release basta basta yan (That’s right, sir. Don’t release them).”

Another netizen, Evelyn Benavente, wrote, “May I salute you for your defiance sirs.”

A retired policeman named Lonie Pedoche gave a lengthy explanation urging the policemen to not release the suspects.

He said he was also harassed for enforcing the law, and a case against him remains unresolved even after he retired from service.

He pointed out that there were “vital witnesses” who were also victimized by the suspects.

“We in the police service who are vulnerable to counter charges are all ready to face the consequences to (serve justice) in accordance to the law. We will enforce the law without fear because no one is above the law.”
