Abarquez makes quarterfinal rd.

WHEN you are considered as the second best netter in the country, the pressure of performing at the highest level is expected of you.

And yesterday, Cebuana netter Elizabeth Abarquez, who is ranked second by the Unified Tennis Philippines lived up to the hype, as she advanced into the 16-U girls’ quarterfinals of the Palawan Pawnshop – Palawan Express Pera Padala (PPS-PEPP) in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

The 15-year-old Abarquez, who will turn a year older next month, sent a strong message to other competitors as she blanked Jhoraine Alon, 4-0, 4-0, to move to the next round.

“I just did my best and I was fortunate to win. I’m expecting strong opponents in the next rounds,” said Abarquez, who is gunning for the title in hopes of getting a three-month tennis scholarship in Australia later this year.

With her victory, Abarquez will take on the winner of the Jazelle Madis-Princess Cerbito match, which will be played today.
