THE UNIVERSITY of Cebu (UC) Webmasters will be returning to action in this year’s Milo Little Olympics Visayas Regional Finals that will be held on Aug. 24 to 27 in Cebu City.

This was revealed by Visayas Regional Finals chief organizer Ricky Ballesteros after he met with the different tournament managers and officials yesterday at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) to discuss preparations for this major multi-sporting event.

“Watch for UC’s return because they did not compete last year,” Ballesteros said.

The 17-time Milo Little Olympics secondary division champions UC skipped last year’s competition to prioritize Department of Education (DepEd) meets.

It was also one way of helping the university cut on its cost after getting affected by the K to 12 system, in which its new senior high school levels started last school year.

With the absence of UC, the University of San Carlos-Basic Education Department (USC-BED) dominated both the secondary and elementary divisions last year by scoring 170.75 and 111.6 points, respectively.

Ballesteros added that competition is expected to be stiff with more teams expected to join. “There will be more schools joining coming from Bacolod, Iloilo, Antique, Bohol and Leyte,” he said.

The school-based sporting meet will feature around 6,000 athletes coming from various schools and universities from the region. They will compete in 15 sporting events including two demo sports karatedo and arnis.

Ballesteros revealed that aside from the CCSC, SM Seaside City Cebu may again host some of the games. Last year, SM Seaside City Cebu hosted the table tennis, taekwondo, karatedo, gymnastics, arnis, chess and scrabble events. Robinson’s Galleria Cebu is also planning to host other sporting events.

Ballesteros said they will announce the official venues of the 15 sporting events next week.
