Mandaue gets homecourt edge in North Division Finals

MANDAUE City secured the crucial homecourt advantage in the North Division Finals after it routed the Consolacion Sarok Weavers, 83-68, at the close of the quarterfinal round of the 2017 Cebu Governor’s Cup Under 21 Inter-Cities/Municipalities Basketball Tournament at the Tuburan Municipal Sports Complex last Friday night.

The match was a preview of the North Division Finals as Mandaue and Consolacion are scheduled to tangle in a best-of-three series after a one-two finish in the quarters.

Mandaue swept the five-game quarterfinals, while Consolacion wounded up 4-1.
Overall, Mandaue improved to 10-0 as it has yet to lose a single game in the tournament spearheaded by the Cebu Provincial Sports Commission executive director Atty. Ramil Abing.

Mandaue continued to play without its injured skipper Jancork Cabahug, but Christopher Isabelo was there to step up as he fired a game-high 24 points, 14 of them came in the first period that allowed the winning squad to immediately take control of the match.

Kenneth Brillo, John Benedick Damolo and Aljie Mendez also scored in double figures with 15, 13 and 12 markers, respectively.

Froiland Maglasang paced Consolacion with 17 points, Emmanuel Villamor added 15, Cyril Sabellana donated 11 and JC Escalona chipped in 10.

Tuburan, on the other hand, capped its quarterfinals campaign with a close 76-74 win over Bogo City.

Joycelee Oropino topped Tuburan with 26, Mike Parilla pitched in 16, Romyr Kirt Gonzaga delivered 15 and Alson Sevilla had 13.
