CEBU-BASED runners made the Baybay City Bubble Run their virtual playground by sweeping all six titles disputed in Sunday’s race which started and finished at the Baybay City Veteran’s Park in Baybay, Leyte.
Leading the Cebuano juggernaut were Spectrum Runners Club’s Rafael Pescos and Lizane Abella who dominated the 16-kilometer race.
Pescos, a native of Hinigiran, Negros Occidental but based in Cebu, clocked 57 minutes and 33 seconds to top the centerpiece event.
The reigning Cebu City Marathon 21k champ beat local runner Judito Paculdo who rimed 58:39 and another Cebu runner Paul James Zafico who finished third in 1:00.05.
Abella on the other hand, led a 1-2-3 finish for Cebuanos in the women’s race ahead of Ruffa Sorongon and Lovely Fe Andrin.
Abella, the reigning All Women’s Ultra Marathon (AWUM) clocked 1:09.40 while Sorongon and Andrin breasted the tape in 1:16.18 and 1:28.21, respectively.
In the 8k race, Prince Joey Lee of University of Cebu (UC) and Cherry Andrin of Southwestern University (SWU) captured the men’s and women’s titles by clocking 24:50 and 25:41, respectively.
Lee bested local runner Dodong Busteros who placed second in 28:01 and City of Naga’s Bonifacio Monjas who clocked 28:24.
Leyte’s Lea Ethel Tampus and Pearl Farelino finished second and third in the women’s 8k clocking 38:18 and 41:27, respectively.
University of San Carlos-Basic Education’s (USC-BED) ace Mary Joy Loberanes topped the 3k girls race in 12:53 crushing local runners Princess May Tabelino (14:31) and Jossette Molina at (15:33).
Jordan Bacong also led another Cebu sweep in the boys 3k clocking 10:22 while Harold Kim Guiao (10:25) and Melton John Avila (10:30) took runner-up honors.
