AFTER a three-year hiatus, the “Health Run” of Lapu-Lapu City sportsman and city Councilor Harry Radaza will return on July 2.
The running event for Lapu-Lapu City constituents started in 2011 but took a break in 2014. It returns this year, this time featuring 12 legs, unlike the previous editions which only had three to four legs.
Radaza led the official launching of the race yesterday at the Cafe Racer along Ouano Avenue at the North Reclamation Area in Mandaue City.
“This run was originally conceptualized to bring Oponganons out of their houses and start a healthy and fit lifestyle through running,” Radaza said.
“Unlike before where the series only lasted for two to three months, we decided to extend it to a full year so that the participants will consistently join our sports program.”
The first leg will start in Barangay Pajo and will finish in Barangay Pusok. The succeeding legs will be held in every first Sunday of the month. The distances will range from 1 kilometer to 10k depending on the race route of the host barangays.
“I included a 1k distance so that I can encourage families, especially those who does not have a time to exercise, to try running and (maybe) eventually they will join longer distances. The runner who completes the 12 legs will get special prize and a medal,” added Radaza.
Radaza was joined by RD Pawnshop’s Michael Roma, Ringo Jay Trinio of RJT Events and Promotions, Lulu Valiente of Basura Run and Neil Caintic of House of Hope in yesterday’s launching.
Radaza said he is also scouting for talents in Lapu-Lapu City who can represent the city in major sporting events. The most notable talents discovered in the Health Run were the Andrin sisters – Jhean, Lovely Fe and Cherry.
Registration fee is P350 inclusive of the race singlet and race bib. To register, one can visit the Lapu-Lapu City Hall.
