Escorted by at least 10 policemen in full battle gear, Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel was shipped back to Bohol at around 9 p.m. on Friday.
He was accompanied by his lawyer, Gerardo Carillo, and some relatives on board J and N Carrier passenger ship that was heading for Ubay, Bohol. The ship is expected to arrive in Ubay town at around 2 a.m. on Saturday.
Also on the boat were two other suspects – Restituto Magoncia and Wilfredo Hoylar. Niño, the primary suspect in the disappearance and death of his wife, Mayor Gisela Boniel of Bien Unido town, was ordered by a Regional Trial Court judge to be committed to the Talibon District Jail while the charges of kidnapping and serious illegal detention filed against him in Bohol are resolved by the court.
Magoncia and Hoylar, on the other hand, were allowed to spend the weekend at the Talibon Police Station pending resolution of the petition of writ of habeas corpus they filed in court to question their arrest.
In an interview, Carillo said he was requested by Niño to accompany him to Bohol. “At least, the police obeyed the court order to detain my client in Talibon, Bohol,” he said.
“I think he will be able to rest in the Talibon Jail since there’s a bigger space there,” he added.
Niño was detained at the Fuente Osmeña Police Station stockade since he was arrested last June 7, about 18 hours after he allegedly killed his wife and threw the latter’s body to the sea.
A parricide complaint was filed against him and his eight cohorts at the Lapu-Lapu Prosecutor’s Office.
