Asean delegates to go island hopping

The Lapu-Lapu City government and the Department of Tourism (DOT) will sponsor an island hopping tour for delegates of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) after their meetings.

The city’s tourism officer, Hembler Mendoza, said they are now preparing the island hopping event which will be led by the DOT.

The delegates will tour the islets on Olango Island and along the Hilutongan channel on board motor bancas.

“Wala pa hinoon ma-finalize kon pila ka delegates ang mokuyog sa island hopping pero dili g’yud siguro tanan (We have not yet finalized how many delegates will join the island hopping but maybe not all of them),” said Mendoza. .

He added that this is one way of selling tourism sites in Lapu-Lapu City which would also bring it to the international market and could attract foreign investments. This will also showcase the city’s native products like the guitars and shell craft.

“Primarily, this is a sort of a recreation for the delegates after they have been burned out with the ministerial meetings,” said Mendoza.

A group of folk dancers will be on hand to welcome the delegates as they arrive.

Lapu-Lapu City will put up ornamental plants, revive painting of the city’s branding colors and clean the streets along the Asean route.
