SHE’S NOT GISELA?
When a body of a woman was found in the waters between Cebu and Negros islands on Saturday, many speculated that it could be that of missing Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Bendong-Boniel.
And even if the police clarified that the remains were that of a woman in her 60s and not Gisela’s, who was only 40, many netizens remained doubtful.
Mary Francis Alita Omambac, commenting to the story posted on the Facebook page of Cebu Daily News and the photos of the retrieved body posted on other pages on FB, wrote:
“Murag naay pinusilan sa iyang lawas. Tan awa jud ninyo pag ayo. Then kung lola na ngano di man tiguwang og lawas? Nganu gi balot man og net? #DNA Test please!!!”
(It looks like she has a gunshot wound in her body. Examine her closely. If she is a grandmother, why does her body look young? Why was she wrapped in a fishing net? #DNA test please!)
The comment was apparently in reference to earlier reports that Gisela’s body was wrapped in a fishing net, tied with a rope and weighed down by a 30-kilo stone before it was thrown into the sea between Cebu and Bohol sometime at dawn of June 8, allegedly after she was shot dead by her husband, Bohol Provincial Board Member Niño Rey Boniel.
Another netizen, Kath Ameera Ledesma, also wrote, “Gusto talaga nila palabasin na hindi patay si mayora Boniel, at itoy nagtatago lang. Kaya ba sinasabing hindi sya ang bangkay na ito???” (They still want to make it appear that Mayor Boniel is still alive. Is that why they are saying it was not her?)
Police and divers have been searching for Gisela’s body since June 8 to no avail. The search was halted on June 27. But heeding the appeal of Gisela’s family, the police decided to resume the search next week.
