WHETHER taking a coffee break or visiting a mall, delegates to the senior officers’ meeting of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) have a security detail assigned to them at all times.

“As I said, it’s convenient that it (their venue) is near a mall so that anytime, if they have a coffee break they can walk straight to the mall because they have security there,” Chief Supt. Noli Taliño, Police Regional Office chief, said.

He said security is doubled for the delegates whenever they go outside their meeting venue.

Aside from a rally staged by militants, there was no untoward incident so far at the venue, Taliño said.

“After a few minutes of hearing their grievances, they voluntarily dispersed. No major problems. We are still monitoring and they may return to stage another rally,” he said.

Taliño said the police personnel remain healthy and ready to escort the delegates should they take a tour in Cebu.

“We are ready in case they decide to go island hopping,” he said.
