Macarine to swim from Argao to Loon

PINOY AQUAMAN Ingemar Macarine will attempt to swim from Argao town, south Cebu, to Loon town in Bohol on Sunday.

The 39-year-old Macarine is aiming to log his 30th successful open water swim by crossing the 18-kilometer distance, the closest between the two islands.

Macarine said that he already swam the area last year but he started in Loon and finished the swim in Argao that has a shorter distance of 16k.

“This swim is sponsored by Argao Mayor Dr. Stanley Caminero who encouraged me to swim this sea again to promote tourism for the town and cleaner seas. I will start at four in the morning and I am aiming to finish it at seven hours,” said Macarine.

He finished last year’s swim in five hours and 49 minutes. This Sunday’s swim is also part of his preparations to swim across the English Channel from Dover, England to Calais, France next month.

He will fly to Dover, England on August 14, but he is yet to announce the exact date of his swim attempt in the English Channel.

The Surigao-born Macarine was recently included in the list of the “2017 World’s 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Men” of the World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA).

Last June 25, Macarine and his partner Frank Lacson swam across Grande Island in Bataan to Driftwood Beach in Olongapo City to promote cleaner seas and protect marine life.
