Global Cebu FC came up with a performance as cold as last night’s weather as it settled for a scoreless draw with the Davao Aguilas FC in the ongoing Philippines Football League (PFL) at the Cebu City Sports Center.
The Aguilas surprised the host team with their superb defense, repeatedly frustrating Global Cebu in the 90-minute match.
The draw gave each team one point.
Global Cebu FC remained at second place in the team standings courtesy of its six wins, three draws and two losses, good for 21 points.
The Aguilas are at sixth spot with five points with their 0W-5D-5L card.
A win could have earned Global a share of the lead after Meralco Manila FC bowed to Ceres Negros FC, 0-7, early in the day at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Metro Manila.
Global Cebu FC started the first half with four attempts — three of them were off the mark while the other attempt of Shu Sasaki was saved by the Aguilas’ goalkeeper Marko Trkulja.
Global Cebu continued with their attacks in the second half and had some good attempts but the Aguilas continued to pin them on the sideline.
The host team could have logged its first goal but Trkulja was able to save Hiraku Minegishi’s breakaway attempt.
The Aguilas will next face Ceres Negros FC on July 22 in Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City, while Global Cebu will visit its former home pitch, the Rizal Memorial Stadium, on July 22 to face the Meralco Sparks.
