Teachers’ list for aid sought

ANDALES

The Cebu City office of the Department of Education (DepEd) will be required to submit an updated list of all teachers employed in the city’s public schools so they can receive the annual P10,000 financial assistance from City Hall.

In last week’s session, the City Council approved an ordinance which amends Section 6 of City Ordinance No. 2463 that allocates annual financial assistance to public school teachers in the city.

City Councilor Sisinio Andales, who authored the amendment to the ordinance, said this will ensure that the city government allocates enough funds every year for cash assistance to qualified teachers in the city.

Under the original ordinance approved in April last year, the city was supposed to allocate only P50.1 million every year for cash aid to teachers.

The amount was based on the number of public school teachers in the city during the passage of the ordinance, which was at 5,015.

But Andales said they expect more teachers to be hired in proportion to the growing student population every year.

The new ordinance requires the DepEd Cebu City Schools Division to submit a list of qualified school teachers before the start of the budget hearings for the proposed annual budget of the city every year, which starts in November.

The list should be signed by the DepEd Cebu City superintendent and submitted to the Local School Board (LSB).
