Mulawin vs. Ravena: Stars promise more fight scenes, exciting development

Kiko Estrada, Bea Binene and Derrick Monasterio star in GMA’s primetime fantasy series, “Mulawin vs. Ravena”

BUBBLY and talkative. This was our impression of 22-year-old actor Kiko Estrada after a 17-minute chat filled with laughter and wholesome ribbing with his “Mulawin vs. Ravena” castmates Bea Binene and Derrick Monasterio prior to their Kapuso mall shows in Cebu last Saturday.

He was far from his antagonist role as Rafael, the character he portrays in the Kapuso primetime fantasy series, who holds too much angst and hate in his heart that often leads to sudden outbursts.

“For me, it’s fun playing the bad guy. It’s so easy to be the good guy, I can even do it in my sleep. ‘Yung masama ang mahirap,” said Kiko, as an audible gasp can be heard from both Bea and Derrick before the three broke into laughter.

“Innate na kasi sa kanya ‘eh (ang pagiging masama),” said an amused Derrick, which Bea jokingly seconded with: “It’s in his blood na kasi.”
Comfortable and easy banters filled the room, owing to the fact that the three have already worked together in the youth-oriented television series, “Reel Love: Tween Hearts” back in 2011.

Asked if he has a fear of being a typecast as kontrabida, Kiko — son of actor Gary Estrada and former actress Cheska Diaz — said that he is more concerned about doing well in his role rather than any possible negative feedback of playing the villain.

“Finding out who really is. Maiintindihan niyo na kung bakit siya nag outburst. Magkikita na kami lahat,” said Kiko when asked about what viewers can expect from Rafael in the coming days and weeks.

MORE THINGS TO COME

Topbilling the hit GMA telefantasya, the three actors promised more exciting developments as Almiro (Derrick)
finally discovers that he is a Mulawin, and tries to help in fighting crimes in Tierra Fuego.

“Magkikita-kita na kami, tapos may mamatay, major siya na character. May mag-ta-transform into a Ravena, at may sasaniban,” shared Derrick.
As Bea, who plays Anya, revealed that there will be a lot of fight scenes in the next coming of days.

“Ang dami po dapat abangan sa mismong show, fast-paced na ang pangyayari. Ngayon kahit kami inaabangan namin lahat ng script na lumalabas, marami pang mangyayari,” she said.

The 19-year-old actress described “Mulawin vs. Ravena” as a passion project — a realization of her dream to land an action-packed role
either on film or on TV.

“Para sa akin isa siyang passion project kasi ganito po talaga ang gusto kong roles. It is physically challenging dahil andaming fight scenes and you need to lose weight pero na-e-enjoy ko naman. Hindi siya mahirap na challenge. It’s a very enjoyable challenge for me,” she said.

The trio, together with the loveteam Bianca Umali (who portrays Lawiswis) and Miguel Tanfelix (Pagaspas) were in Cebu last Saturday for a back-to-back mall tour at Gaisano Grand Mall Mactan and Gaisano Grand Fiesta Mall Tabunok.

”Mulawin vs. Ravena” airs weeknights, after “24 Oras.”
