National team spots at stake in BVR On Tour beach volleyball

SPOTS in the national beach volleyball pool will be at stake in the Beach Volleyball Republic (BVR) On Tour National Championship to be held at the Anguib Beach in Sta. Ana, Cagayan on July 28 to 30.

In an exclusive chat with Cebu Daily News, sports patron and tournament director Tonyboy Liao said the top three performers in the men’s and women’s divisions will make it to the national pool for the Southeast Asian beach volleyball competition scheduled this September in Singapore.

Among those who have confirmed their participation are the duo of former national team player Jade Becaldo and Rommel Pepito of Liloan Redline and the Team Cebu pair of reigning Cesafi Most Valuable Player (MVP) Therese Ramas and 2015 Cesafi MVP Floremel “Dij” Rodriguez.

Becaldo, the current assistant coach of the University of the Visayas, is no stranger to international competition, having represented the country in the Asian Volleyball Confederation Tours beach volleyball tournament in 2014 in Hong Kong and in the Asian Beach Games last year in Vietnam.

Also competing in the men’s division are the National University, Far Eastern University, Rizal Technological University (RTU), Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU), Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, Iloilo, Bacolod and the University of St. La Salle.

Aside from Team Cebu, the women’s field will be comprised of ADMU, RTU, Philippine National Police, Tagum, Iloilo, Bacolod and the Team Perlas duo of Charo Soriano and Bea Tan.
