GLOBAL Cebu FC gave everything it got against a favored Meralco Manila Sparks FC on Saturday but still fell to its second consecutive draw to remain in third spot in the ongoing Philippines Football League (PFL) at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Metro Manila.
Fresh from their July 15 scoreless draw versus Davao Aguilas FC at the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC), Global Cebu leaned on the scoring heroics of striker, Daryl Roberts who found the back of the net twice to offset the scoring of Phil and James Younghusband for the important 2-2 draw.
James Younghusband scored at the 30th minute but Roberts tied that with a goal at the 34th minute as Global Cebu’s defenders Dennis Villanueva, Gerry Barbaso, Wesley Dos Santos and prized goal keeper Patrick Deyto kept the Sparks at bay as the first half ended in a, 1-1 draw.
Phil Younghusband opened the second half with a goal in the 54th minute off a penalty kick.
But Roberts again tied the count at the 61st minute. Both teams did not cede a goal until the final whistle.
“We had plenty of chances, we hit the bar twice in the game and we tried to dominate every possession going to the final period,” said Global Cebu FC’s head coach Marjo Allado.
Global Cebu FC may have failed to beat the Sparks but they managed to salvage a point from the draw to keep in third place overall with 22 points on six wins, four draws and two losses.
Kaya Makati FC edged Ilocos United FC, 5-2, last Wednesday at the President Elpidio Quirino Stadium in Ilocos Sur to climb to second place in the standings.
Global Cebu FC will return to Cebu City to face arch rival Ceres Negros FC on July 29 for their third duel in the league.
