RACE READY

say all is set for Cebu’s sixth hosting of Cobra IronMan PH

Sunrise Events Inc (SEI), organizer of the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines, said everything is in place for Cebu’s hosting of the prestigious triathlon race on Aug 6.

SEI general manager Princess Galura told Cebu Daily News they just finished their coordination meetings with host city Lapu-Lapu, the Philippine National Police (PNP) Police Regional Office-7, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and other stakeholders of the race that will feature 2,696 triathletes from more than 50 countries.

“We are always prepared. We always review our preparations in all aspects over and over again so that we will not miss anything even the tiniest bit of detail,” said Galura.

Tha race starts and ends at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa in Lapu-Lapu City. It will offer a half-IronMan distance of 1.9-kilometer swim, 90k bike and 21k run. The bike route will also pass through the cities of Mandaue, Cebu and Talisay.

According to Galura, Lapu-Lapu is “race ready.”

The Lapu-Lapu LGU last week inspected the route of the race and made sure that the entire stretch of road that will be used was in a festive mood.

The sponsors also did its part in making sure the route would be impressive for the participants.

“Cobra already decorated Lapu-Lapu’s streets, it’s now full of the yellow colors of Cobra,” Galura said.

Coming back next year

Meanwhile, Galura clarified that the Cobra IronMan 70.3 Philippines will continue next year in Cebu, despite the staging of the very first full IronMan race in Subic Bay, Zambales on June 3, 2018.

“There will still be a 70.3 Ironman race in Cebu next year since the full Ironman distance has a different market. It’s for the hardcore triathletes. We will continue the Cobra Ironman 70.3 Philippines next year along with the full Ironman.”

On Sunday, around 400 triathletes, mostly first-timers in IronMan race, will hit the road for the annual bike out organized by Cebuano triathletes Tj Mayol and Mark Quiblatin.

“It will be a regular ride that will pass Ironman 70.3 bike route to give participants a chance to test the road before they tackle the race next week,” Mayol said.

The bike out will cover 75 to 80k. It will start and finish at the Mactan New Town in Lapu-Lapu City.
