Pedicab driver hacked, wounded in Sibonga

A 20-year-old man hacked and wounded a 28-year-old pedicab driver in Sibonga, a southern town 56.1 km from Cebu City, on Thursday afternoon.

Adrian Addun of Barangay Bahay, Sibonga town, was arrested a few hours after he attacked Julito Monares, a resident of the same barangay, said PO3 Ederlino Bakosmo, Sibonga police station investigator.

Bakosmo said that Monares was allegedly hacked with a bolo by Addun in the neck and stomach at the Sibonga Public Market.

He said that a personal grudge was the motive of the attack. Bakosmo said that Addun harbored a grudge against Monares after the latter’s family allegedly failed to pay the P7,000 cash that Addun’s family had asked in exchange for them not filing any complaint against Monares’ father.

The victim’s father allegedly beat up the suspect’s father during a fistfight in a barangay fiesta a few months ago, said Bakosmo.

Addun’s father was hospitalized because of the beating he experienced. A P2,000 downpayment was paid, but the trouble started after Monares’ family failed to pay the P5,000 balance because they had no money yet to pay Addun’s family, said Bakosmo.

On Thursday, while the victim was riding his pedicab, the suspect attacked and wounded the victim, who was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Addun was arrested later and detained at the Sibonga police station pending the filing of charges.
