Some 20 farmers received carabaos from AboitizLand last July 1 in Barangay Canamucan, Compostela town in northern Cebu.

In partnership with Compostela Market Vendor’s Multi-purpose Cooperative (Comavemco), AboitizLand distributed carabaos, milking machine and milk cans to qualified farmers and carabao-raisers from Barangay Lupa, Compostela as part of AboitizLand’s Better Communities Program.

AboitizLand assistant vice president for External Affairs Anthony Noel said the Better Communities Program is just one of the many corporate social responsibility efforts that AboitizLand will provide in Compostela town to help advance its business and communities.

Meanwhile, Compostela Mayor Joel Quiño and Vice Mayor Josephine Abing both expressed their gratitude for AboitizLand’s support to the municipality.

“Daku akong pasalamat sa AboitizLand kay tungod ani’ng gihatag [na mga carabaos ug milking equipment] nila, makab-ot na nato ang atong mga damgo (I am very thankful to AboitizLand because for giving us [carabaos and milking equipment], we can now reach our dreams),” said Rene Puebla, a beneficiary of the program.

The Better Communities Program is an enterprise development initiative that aims to support local products and industries and to provide community artisans with the adequate machinery and new knowledge in order to increase product quality and marketing.

In Compostela, AboitizLand is supporting its budding industry for soft white cheese known as queso which is made from carabao’s milk.

Through Comavemco, the beneficiaries are set to undergo various training and workshops in different aspects of the queso industry.

Last June, the beneficiaries had a two-day training on carabao management conducted by the Philippine Carabao Center.
