Macarine hopes second try will be a success

PINOY Aquaman Ingemar Macarine is hoping his second attempt to swim across the treacherous English Channel in Europe will be a success.

The 39-year-old Surigao-native Macarine is set to swim the 33.7-kilometer English Channel from Dover, England, to Calais, France, this month.

This will be the second attempt for Macarine to cross the English Channel after he failed in his first attempt last year due to bad weather conditions.

He is targeting August 14 to 18 to achieve his goal. He will be accompanied by his navigator Eric Hartley of Pathfinder Charter Boat in England.

Should he be successful, Macarine will become the first Asian to accomplish the feat.

The English Channel is considered by open-water swimmers like Macarine as the “Mount Everest” of open-water swimming.

He said that Mount Everest was already conquered by seven Filipinos; that’s why he is motivated to become the first Filipino and Asian to successfully swim across the English Channel.

“This swim is dedicated to all Filipinos. (I am) hoping and praying for a good weather and a successful swim,” said Macarine.

Before he flew to England, Macarine logged his 30th successful open-water swim when he swam 18.5 kilometers from Argao town, south Cebu, to Loon, Bohol, in eight hours and 25 seconds.
