Close wins for SG-ARQ, Fighter Wine

THE SG-ARQ Builders and Fighter Wine padded their win totals as they authored exciting victories in the continuation of the Emil’s Fresh Chicken Cup on Tuesday night at the Minglanilla Sports Complex.

The Builders hiked their win-loss card to a clean 4-0 with a thrilling 93-92 win over the San Remegio Properties. Fighter Wine on the other hand, improved to 3-1 with a 108-107 squeaker over the reigning champions Team Samsam Gullas.

Former PBA guard Roger Yap took matters into his own hands as he sank a difficult lay-up with 12 seconds remaining that put Fighter Wine up for good. Team Samsam’s Dennis Daa had a ripe opportunity to give his squad the victory but missed a chip shot inside the shaded lane as time expired.

Joseph Nalos, Jayford Rodriguez and Danny Aying formed a deadly triumvirate for Fighter Wine as they scored 28, 27 and 22 points, respectively.

Team Samsam fell to 2-2.

In the other game, another ex-pro, Jojo Tangkay, donned the hero’s cape for SG-ARQ as he defied San Remegio’s tight defense and scored to give them a 93-92 lead, with just seven seconds remaining.

San Remegio had a chance to regain the lead, but Ralf Olivares lost control of the ball. His teammate, Alwyn Aguirre, recovered it, but his short jumper fell short at the final buzzer, to hand SG-ARQ the win.

Eman Calo paced the Builders with 22 points while Reed Juntilla backed him up with 14.
