THE 2001 Lite Shipping-Dos Mil Uno and the 1994 Bulldogs finished off their opponents to lord it over their respective divisions in the finals of the University of San Carlos North Alumni Basketball Conference (NABC) Summer League 2 Powered by Common Ground on Sunday at the USC North Campus gym.

Lite Shipping powered past the 1997 Ronins, 74-55, in the deciding Game Three, to annex the Division 2 title. Wide-bodied big man AJ San Juan proved to be unstoppable as he manhandled his defenders inside to the tune of 29 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, two steals and a blocked shot.

Conrad Campos added 13 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals to help Batch 2001 rally and nab the crown after initially losing the series-opener.

San Juan was eventually named MVP of the division and also grabbed a spot in the prestigious Mythical Five alongside his teammate, Campos, 1997’s Jake Saturinas, 1998’s Cromwell Po and 1999’s Joseph Bragat.

In Division 1, the 1994 Bulldogs hoisted the crown with a 74-70 Game Three victory over the 1993 Dragons. Much like Lite Shipping, the Bulldogs also lost the series opener but regrouped to take the next two games and end a season which saw them lose just once, with a title.

Division 1 MVP Sigmund Cabrera led the way for 1994 with 17 points, nine rebounds, six assists, three steals and two blocked shots.

Aside from the MVP award, Cabrera also gained a spot in the Mythical Five along with his comrades James Lu and Jansen Juntar, 1993’s Bong Eleazar and 1988’s Dindo Sausa. /Correspondent Jonas Rey N. Panerio
