Livelier, richer Osmeña Run offers P400K cash

PARTICIPANTS of the 2017 Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. Run will be treated to a festive atmosphere come race day as race organizers and the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC) decided to put up tribal presentations along the race route on September 9 starting at the Sergio Osmeña Sr. marker at the corner of Lapu-Lapu Street and Osmena Boulevard.

The race which is held in honor of the late former president Sergio Osmeña who will celebrate his 139th birthday on race day, will have four categories –3-kilomter, 5K, 10K and 21K with an eye-popping cash prizes totalling over P400,000.

“The route will be fun because we will have tribal presentations. This is not just any ordinary race, we have designed this to be an extraordinary race,” said CCSC chairman Edward Hayco.

Race director Joel Juarez said that the race, which will start at 4:30 a.m. will have a cut-off time of three hours and 30 minutes and will end at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) through its sports coordinator, Zenaida Gocotano assured that at least a thousand students will be taking part in the race.

Registration is pegged at P650 for 21K, P550 for both the 10K and 5K and P250 for 3K.

The top 10 finishers in each category will receive medals and cash prizes. Proceeds of the race will go directly to the year-round grassroots program of the CCSC.
