CEBU Provincial Governor Hilario Davide III “warmly welcomed” the return of Negros Oriental province as part of the Central Visayas region after President Rodrigo Duterte issued an executive order last Wednesday for the dissolution of Negros Island Region (NIR).
“Welcome back, Negros Oriental,” Davide told reporters during a press conference Friday morning.
Davide said that Duterte’s Executive Order 38 will not bring any adjustment in the part of the province and that its relationship with Negros Oriental remains the same.
Negros Island Region (NIR) was established through the Executive order 183 signed by then President Benigno Aquino III.
Duterte, through EO 38, decided to abolish NIR citing lack of funds to make the new regional offices fully functional.
