CPDRC jail guards vow to cooperate

IT HAS been a week since the Cebu Provincial Police Office and Provincial Public Safety Company conducted a surprised greyhound operation in the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) where 10 jail guards were accused of conniving with inmates to smuggle several contraband items seized during the raid.

Eight of the jail guards expressed willingness to cooperate with the investigation led by officials from the Cebu provincial government to solve the continued entry of contraband in the penitentiary in Barangay Kalunasan, Cebu City.

This was announced by Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III Friday morning after inviting CPDRC employees last Monday to report any information they know pertaining to the illegal activities inside the provincial jail.

“I will personally preside over the interrogation,” said Davide.

But the governor refused to divulge their names yet, citing the assurance of confidentiality he made to them.

Davide revealed that these jail guards have been wanting to air out their sentiments and concerns for years since they were assigned to guard and monitor the jail.

“Maybe they were reluctant to express their concerns to the current warden (Roberto Legaspi) or the previous ones…we’ll find out everything once we are done with our investigations,” he added.

The governor has not changed his mind to withhold the CPDRC staff’s midyear bonus worth P10,000.
