CEBUANO netter Marc Nicole Suson bounced back from losing in the 18-under finals as he defeated Vince Geo Serino, 6-3, 6-3, to take the 16-U boys tiara of the Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championships on Monday in Iligan City.
Suson struggled earlier in the day as he was unable to find his rhythm against the hometown bet Serino, losing in the premier 18-U boys finals 2-6, 3-6.
But the University of Cebu (UC) ace managed to keep himself calm under tremendous pressure as he rebounded with style, crushing Serino in the championship round of the 16-U boys.
“I had a hard time adjusting in the hard court and I also struggled against him because he was also a hard court player,” Suson admitted. “I won in the (16-U) because I already adjusted in the hard court and it was also the time when I knew his weakness.”
Other winners include Abdel Matarul, who took home the 10-unisex crown with a 4-0, 4-1 beating of Vinz Bering while Heinz Carbonilla won over John Sonsona 6-2, 6-2 to pocket the 12-U boys trophy.
The Maranding, Lanao del Norte native Carbonilla had a chance for a twin kill but he failed miserably against Brent Cortes, losing in the 14-U boys finals 1-6, 2-6.
In the girls division, Casey Padilla defeated Kristin Bandolis 6-2, 6-3 for the 12-U title before she fell short to the latter losing in the 14-U finals 3-6, 2-6.
