Erik Matti on ‘Bar Boys’: “It’s nostalgic and sentimental”

THE LIFE of law students and their journey towards taking the bar exams will be one of the stories tackled in a film for this year’s Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino.

“Bar Boys,” a comedy drama top billed by Kapamilya and Kapuso actors Carlo Aquino (as Erik), Enzo Pineda (as Christian), Kean Cipriano (as Joshua), and Rocco Nacino (as Toran) will be hitting the cinemas today until August 22, Tuesday.

Three days ago, Nacino on his Instagram (@nacinorocco) posted, “Team #BarBoysFilm! Palabas na simula August 16-22 sa lahat ng @sm_cinema branches nationwide! Suportahan ang pelikulang pilipino!

Watch Bar Boys!” Pineda, on his Instagram (@its_enzopineda) also announced that their film was graded “A” by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

Cipriano also posted the film’s trailer on his Instagram and said, “Barkada ang bida sa Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino. Showing in Cinemas on August 16 to 22. Shoutout to all law students out there.

You might relate to this film directed by @kipoebanda!”

On August 13, the cast of “Bar Boys” attended the premiere night at SM Megamall in Mandaluyong City.  Their official Facebook page posted a message of support coming from the award-winning director, Erik Matti. “Bar Boys is a movie that does not get made anymore in this day and age.

It is a story that is obviously close the heart of the filmmaker.

Great performance by its leads and nuanced detail on the inner workings of making it to law school. Reminds me of Maryo J de los Reyes’ and Jake Tordesillas’ Bagets and High School Circa ‘65. It is nostalgic and sentimental,” Matti said.

“Bar Boys” is directed and written by Kip Oebanda under TropicFilms Productions and The Bar Boys Productions Co., which is produced by Vanessa Ulgado.

It is supported by SM Lifestyle Entertainment, Inc.
