6 brgy chiefs to cops: Help us implement curfew ordinance

Doria

BARANGAY captains of six villages in Cebu City have requested the Cebu City Police Office to help them strictly implement the curfew ordinance.

After the turnover of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras yesterday, the barangay captains met with Cebu City Police Office Director, Senior Supt. Joel Doria, to discuss the implementation of the curfew ordinance in their barangays.

Barangays Calamba, San Nicolas Proper, Pahina San Nicolas, Sawang Calero, Pasil, and Suba are set to seek approval for their plans to set a new curfew system.

“They (barangay captains) sought audience from us and they came up with the request to implement the curfew,” Doria said.

Doria said implementing a curfew is seen a solution to secure minors in the place and lessen the number of crimes at night.

Doria said that the barangay captains plan to conduct the operation like the Oplan Pokemon: One Time Big Time.

“Balak gawin nila sabay-sabay pero instruction natin sa station commander is to conduct seminar muna doon sa barangay tanods na involve sa operation,” Doria said.

(They plan to have a simultaneous operation but our instruction to the station commander is to conduct seminar to those barangay tanods that will be involved in the operation.)

Doria said that the barangay tanods should be equipped with the operational procedures especially in searching the arrested or rescued persons.
He added that the barangay should also have a team that will handle the minors.

“Meron silang barangay ordinance meron din tayong city ordinance on curfew. Napagusapan (yesterday) na magseset ng date kailan mag-start then sabay-sabay yun,” Doria said.

(They have barangay ordinance and we also have city ordinance on curfew. We agreed yesterday to set a schedule when to start the operation then it will simultaneous.)

Doria said that under the city ordinance that no minors allowed to roam in the street past 10 p.m.

In the operation, Doria said that police will be provided to the barangay especially in conducting the operation in boundaries.

Aside from the six barangays, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, which is under Mambaling Police Station, will also implement the curfew.
