BECAUSE of their failure to address illegal drugs and ambulant vending problems in their jurisdictions, tanods from Barangays Sambag II and Mambaling will no longer be getting their share of allowances from the Cebu City Hall.
Mayor Tomas Osmeña said tanods will continue to suffer loss of the P4, 000 allowance that they receive from the city each month until such time that they shape up.
Osmeña said the fate of Sambag II and Mambaling tanods should serve as a warning for tanods coming from the city’s 78 other barangays.
The mayor said he would not mind spending the city’s cash on their allowances provided that they perform their designated tasks.
Osmeña said that he was even prepared to double the allowances of tanods who outperform their colleagues.
“If they (tanods) will do a super good job, I will double it (their allowances),” Osmeña said during his press conference on Friday.
Osmeña earlier told Sambag II tanods to make sure that they clear B. Rodriguez Street of ambulant vendors who are obstructing traffic flow, while he directed Mambaling tanods to intensify their anti-drugs campaign. But they all failed.
“Our support for the tanods in Sambag II has been canceled because they did not take care of the vendors. I gave them one week, but they did not do anything. They think I’m bluffing? I don’t think so,” he said.
City Hall is spending P4 million per month for the P4,000 allowances of 20 tanods coming from each of the city’s 80 barangays.
