POLICE officers on motorcycles will be deployed to patrol the seven barangays of the Pari-an Police Station especially at night to deter crimes.
Chief Insp. Clark Ariola, Parian Police Station chief, said that this is a way to increase police visibility in their areas of jurisdiction.
He said the beat patrol, which would involve two police officers patrolling an area on foot, would continue with the added support of the police officers patrolling on motorcycles.
Ariola said that this program, which they called Dedicated Officers and Riders In Action (Doria), would involve teams of at least 11 people led by three police officers and Barangay Police Security Officers.
Doria is taken from Cebu City Police Chief Joel Doria’s name.
Ariola said since they lack service motorcycles, some of the police officers would use their own motorcycles for the patrol.
After the team would finish their rounds in the barangays, the team would stay in an area where crowds gather and thereby increasing police visibility.
Ariola said they would test this system for a few weeks, and assess if it is effective against deterring crimes and then decide to continue or take another approach.
Ariola said implementing the system would not affect the personnel in the station which is manned by 47 police officers securing seven barangays, which include Pari-an, Kamagayan and Lorega.
He said the “Doria team” would also require the police officers to be in complete uniform and their motorcycles should have blinkers.
For BPSOs on the “Doria team,” they would be required to wear reflectorized vests.
