Struggling teams see action in Cesafi basketball tourney
Games today:
Cebu Coliseum
5 p.m. – Don Bosco vs USPF (High School)
6:30 p.m. – SWU vs USPF (College)
The Southwestern University (SWU)-Phinma Cobras will try to steer their ship back on the winning track when they tangle with the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Panthers today in the 17th Cesafi men’s basketball tournament at the New Cebu Coliseum.
A title contender in each of the last five seasons, the Cobras have fallen on tough times, losing their last two games to settle for a tie for fifth place with the Panthers, at 1-4 (win-loss).
As the squad looks for answers in the wake of their 73-83 loss to the defending champions University of the Visayas last weekend, veteran guard and unquestioned leader John Lloyd Luz implored his teammates to step up and focus on the task at hand.
“For me, we need to have more teamwork and dedication sa game. Also we need everyone to step up for tomorrow’s game against USPF and treat it like it’s a championship game for us because we’re 1-4 in standings,” said the fiery point man, formerly of the Far Eastern University.
“We need everyone to focus on the game at dapat hindi po pwedeng pag iba na yung kasama sa court mawawala na sa game. Pero ang magpapanalo po talaga sa team is yung individual defense and team defense,” shared Luz.
In the first game, the winless USPF Baby Panthers seek to turn their fortunes around starting with a match against the also struggling Don Bosco Greywolves.
