TO PROMOTE proper utilization of energy resources in Cebu, the Department of Energy (DOE) in the Visayas will launch its “E-Power Mo campaign” on September 7.
The campaign will involve lecture series and community-based information drive that will be done by DOE-Visayas in partnership with the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA), according to Lourdes Arciaga, DOE-Visayas focal person.
Arciaga said the lecture series will include “E Safety Mo,” which will focus on how to safely use electricity; “E Secure Mo,” which will center on securing reliable and affordable energy services; and “E Diskarte Mo,” which will teach consumers how to utilize renewable and alternative energy sources.
Teaching consumers the proper use of energy is vital, particularly with rising energy consumption because of the prevalent use of gadgets and devices, stressed Rachel Nessia, PIA Cebu information center manager.
To save energy, Arciaga encouraged consumers to look for appliances that have energy efficiency rating labels. “The higher the rating, the more efficient is the appliance. It depends on the brand. Some are rated 13.5 or 12.5,” she added.
Arciaga stressed that while opting for cheaper appliances has its own benefits, it will costly in the long run since these products consume more electricity.
For those who use energy-consuming appliances like electric iron, Arciaga has a tip: “Ironing clothes also has a peak hour. Do not use your electric irons at 2 p.m. because the electricity runs faster during mid-afternoons.”
She also advised consumers to always unplug unused appliances to conserve energy.
