THE NLEX Road Warriors snatched the top seed from under the noses of the Big Chill Superchargers after the two teams suffered contrasting fates in the final day of the elimination round of the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup on Thursday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Road Warriors made history as they established the largest points output and winning margin in a 125-61 rout of the Zambales M-Builders.
On the other hand, the Superchargers got waylaid by the Hog’s Breath Café Razorbacks in the fourth period and lost, 68-84.
Both teams ended up with the same 11-2 (win-loss) records but the Road Warriors got the top spot by virtue of their 97-88 win over the Superchargers in their lone encounter so far this season.
The 125 points of NLEX was the biggest total output of any team in the league while the 64-point margin was the largest as well, surpassing their 52-point rout of Junior Powerade in 2011.
NLEX will now await the winner of the Hog’s Breath-Cagayan Valley quarterfinal showdown while Big Chill will take on the winner of the Jumbo Plastic-Blackwater Sports pairing. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
