Torch lighting in Argao, drug tests in Cebu schools

ABOUT 800 out of 1,747 drug surrenderers in Argao town will light torches at the roadside during an event entitled “Lakang sa Kahayag (Walk to Light) on September 26.

“Lakang sa Kahayag will tell residents of Argao town and the world that there is always room for change,” Argao Mayor Stanley Caminero said.
Argao town’s community-based rehabilitation program consists of six months of constant interventions.

Argao municipal information officer Khayrr Jakosalem said the Lakang sa Kahayag is the first phase in the six-month rehabilitation program.

He said they will also launch their program Winners or Wholistic Intervention, Nurturing Narcotics Education Resources and Sustainability after the torch lighting.

The program will include livelihood training, Jakosalem said.

In the province, the Cebu Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Office (CPADAO) will conduct random drug tests in all of Cebu’s municipal schools.

CPADAO Chief Ivy Durano-Meca said police officers assigned in the province will also be tested.
