MARTIAL LAW AND THE PRESIDENT’S WARNING

President Rodrigo Duterte earlier said that he would be forced to declare a nationwide martial law if the communist rebels bring violence to the streets on a planned protest on September 21.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said there is “remote possibility” as the President is “concerned that the rebellion might get out of hand,” which Lorenzana believes is unlikely to happen.

Netizens were quick to post their reactions on the possibility of another Martial Law.

Facebook user Rw Legados commented, “Good. Arrest all known criminals and corrupt officials. Enough of the brainwashing and personal interests. We should get rid of those hindering the progress of the country.”

Faye Edar Loon said, “We shouldn’t get scared if we are not doing anything unlawful. The Martial Law declaration has a purpose. And if you’re doing good, nothing bad will happen to you.”

Alfonso Dacullo, meanwhile, is against the martial law plan. “There have been several abuses during police operations. So, what’s gonna happen if they won’t be needing a warrant anymore to arrest people?”

Jayson Porlas also commented, “If ever this Martial Law declaration will push through, I hope this won’t be used to abuse the marginalized sector. I hope the president will use this to ensure the safety of every Filipino.”
