“We’re very popular with our local and international tourists for our beautiful beaches, world-class hotels & resorts, and our hospitable locals. What a lot of them don’t know, though, is that this city also holds a lot of cultural and historical value,” she said.
Lapu-Lapu City was named after Chief Lapu-Lapu, defender of the island from the Spanish colonizers.
The city celebrates Kadaugan sa Mactan Festival every April. There is a historical landmark like the Liberty Shrine in Punta Engaño where you can find a big statue of Lapu-Lapu in his honor and the newly opened art gallery that features the unique history of the city, ancient artifacts, and local artists.
Oponganons are devoted to mother patron Mother Mary in Nuestra Señora Birhen de la Regla Parish. Lapu-Lapu City is also known for quality ropes and musical instruments like guitars and ukeleles.
