PRIESTS from different dioceses and religious congregations will be showing off their basketball skills in the 5th season of the Spring Rain Missions Cup Inter-Clergy Tournament to be held next year at the Sacred Heart School gym.
According to Fr. Victor Gonzaga, OSA, Chair of the Inter-Clergy Tournament, the tournament will be held on July 16 to 20, 2018. Invitations were already sent to different dioceses in the country.
Out of 70 invitations, 12 have already confirmed their participation.
Each team would be playing for their advocacies and beneficiaries, which include education and scholarship, infrastructure and development, skills and livelihood empowerment, home and shelter, feeding program, health care, justice and peace, conflict and disaster management, family life apostolate, values formation, youth and sports, vocation and formation, among others.
The tournament also aims to promote the spirit of friendship, love, unity, sports and mission among the dioceses and religious congregations.
“As priest, our lives are mission-driven but playing for a mission is a totally different expression of extending help to our respective advocacies and in the process nurture the priestly communion, friendship and camaraderie among the clergy, both religious and diocesan, in the Archdiocese of Cebu,” Fr. Gonzaga said. “Certainly, this initiative empowers everyone to share and commit for the service of others.”
Glenda Antonio, president and CEO of Spring Rain Global Consultancy Inc., said the tournament is a way of redefining Philanthropy in Sports.
She added that aside from sharing a common mission together, the group also wants to be able to impact the community in any way they can.
