THE Puma Se7ens Cup slated this weekend at the Don Bosco Technical College (DBTC) football pitch in Punta Princesa, Cebu City, has attracted a total of 96 teams vying for supremacy and a shot at the national finals in Manila.
The tournament organized and sponsored by sporting global brand Puma is already happening in Manila for the past years and now has finally arrived in Cebu, thanks to Cebu-based BRO Nationals football club.
According to one of the organizers, Keith Buyco of Bro Nationals FC, the winning teams will qualify for the national finals in Manila on October 28-29.
“They will qualify for the national finals but it’s up to them if they want to pursue it since Puma will only sponsor the tournament and not their expenses. But nevertheless it’s a prestige and a pride for the team to compete in the national finals considering that they will play against top caliber teams there,” said Buyco.
The seven-aside format tournament will have under-7 boys, under-9 boys, under-11 boys, under-13 boys, under-15 boys and girls, under-17 boys and girls , under-19 boys and girls, men’s and ladies open, inter-company and 35-above.
Host team, DBTC is the most represented team in the tournament with 26 entries.
Puma is also planning to hold an Asia-Pacific championships where the national winners can compete.
Buyco also revealed that they are planning to hold a separate futsal tournament after this weekend’s event. The Puma Se7ens Cup is sanctioned by the Cebu Football Association.
